Evaluation

I feel my radio project fits the specifications set well. My radio jingle follows the standard codes and conventions of other radio shows as the jingle and presenter introduce the show well, whilst the archve clip is relevant to the guest. The interview between the presenter and guest would be seen in other radio shows as the clip regarding the guest would come after the short conversation between the two. The jingle and backing tracks also fade out during the show, as would be seen in other similar media texts.

I feel that my radio show attracts my target audience quite well as the jingle and music played is fairly energetic, targeting a younger audience. The music played is also fairly new and up-to-date, also atracting the audience. The people who would listen to my show would generally be younger listeners, and maybe those on their way home from work. My radio show highlights new music and could be distrubuted by radio broadcasters like Radio1.

Completing the project has taught me how to use programs such as GarageBand and the radio technology that the school has to offer. The project also taught me how to follow the conventions of other radio shows in an attempt to attract different audiences.

Making the Radio show

I used GarageBand in order to make the radio jingle, using a combintion of the preset loops and some of my original material. This means that the jingle is more personaised, and I could adapt it to fit the constraints of the radio show. The jingle uses a variety of different instruments, however, the instruments used within the jingle would normally by found in a rock band, for example, electric guitar and drums. This shows the sort of music that the radio show will be playing. The jingle fades out so that the presenter can talk over it whilst maintaining a steady beat underneath the talking. This makes the radio show more interesting, as well as eliminating any possible silencs that may occur.

The different instuments down the left hand side are what I used to create the jingle, the different instruments work well together and show what type of show it is.

The blue strip along the bottom of the screen is what I used in order to equalise the sound so that the different sound fade in and out.

The Swirling Electric Piano sound is the backing track that plays whilst the presenter and guest are talking, and keeps going right up until the music starts.

I recorded the voices using the radio equipment in the media hut, and imported it to the file so that the whole clip could run as one sound file. I also used this as it is specifically used for recording radio shows and therefore would give a more professional and equalised sound. This allowed be to record the presenter and the guest talking to each other, as well as allowing the song to fade in whilst the presenter is intoducing it.

The archive clip is the song, that is relevant to the guest, as well as showing what the guest does. As the presenter I then introduce the song.

My finished project is on Mac 6 in the media hut (the one in the corner), it should also be on one of the media pendrives, Mr Winn's pendrive I think.

Applications

In order to make my radio show I will mainly be using GarageBand, particularly in order to make the jingle. Hopefully using programmes like this will make my radio show sound more professional, which will add to the overall effect of the radio show.

Target Audience

The target audience for my radio show would be young men or people in their late teens. The radio show I aim to produce would be similar to the Scott Mills show, and therefore the show would also be aimed at people driving home from work. To meet my target audience I want to make my show fairly light-hearted, as well as playing good music. The target audience would be similar to that of Radio 1, so te target audience would be mainly young people.

Plan

I aim to make a music radio show, primarily a rock/indie based show, focusing mainly of the music, playing lots of songs. I aim to make the type of show clear through the jingle I make. The opening of the show will contain the jingle and an introduction to the guest that has been brought in, the guest being music based. The show will therfore focus on the music, but would also have a light-hearted approach as I would not like it to be taken to seriously and to be reasonably easy-listening.

Other Radio Jingles

http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b00gqcdr/The_Chris_Moyles_Show_20_01_2009/

The opening to the Chris Moyles Show is quite laid back and quiet. The lyrics to the jingle tell you that it is a morning radio show, and therefore the music fits in nicely with this, as the laid back feel to the jingle makes it easy to listen to, as well as indicating that the show will not be to fast-paced and loud, and will gently easy you into the morning. This particular jingle is very long, and the lyrics are almost satirical, this highlights that the show will be light-hearted, aiming to make the listeners laugh, and that it is not a serious show. The jingle is a bit too long, as it is almost a minute and a half long, and the tune is repetitive and can get boring. Overall I feel this jingle is reasonably good at getting the point across as it highlights the unseriousness nature of the show, as well as showing the listeners that the early morning radio show will not be too loud.

This opening to the Scott Mills show is very high paced and gives the impression that this show will me more high paced in its content. The intro shows that the show will be playing popular music, aimed at people coming home from work. The opening to this show makes people sit up and take notice of it as it is so high paced. The opening here is far different to that of the Chris Moyles show, as this show attempts to aim to people on their way home from work, the high tempo of this intro shows this as people are generally in a better mood having left work, and the listeners are more willing to listen to the fast paced radio show, as apposed to the morning show. This is a good intro to a radio show, as the listeners become interested, as well as appealing to those who are coming home after leaving work

The Zane Lowe Takeovers show is short, and get right to the point. The Sound FX show it to be a cool show, aimed at young people. The opening also gives infomation about the show, teling the listeners that special guests will be taking over the show. The short introduction to the show indicates that the show will be simple, and good music. This intro is good as it get straight to the point and tells the listeners what will be happening in the show in brief.
